Hot tubs and spas are perfect for entertaining friends and relaxing. But the biggest question many homeowners may have is, what should I look for in a spa or hot tub? Here are a few things to consider before purchasing a new spa or hot tub.

Location

The most important thing to consider for your spa or hot tub is placement. Where are you going to put it?

Ideally, you need a flat surface that the hot tub can sit on. More often than not this will be a space on your patio/deck or an area of your backyard that is very flat. Once you pick out the perfect spot you will need to measure it to see how much space you have to work with.

Size & Seating

You’ve picked your location. You’ve measured how much room you have available. Now it’s time to think about how big it will be. When you consult with your local hot tub experts you will want to let them know how much space you have and how many seats you ideally want for your spa or hot tub.

Think about what the primary use of the hot tub will be. Will you be inviting other family members or friends to use it with you, or is it something for just you and your immediate family at home? This will help you narrow down how many seats you ideally need.

Voltage (110V or 220V)

Voltage sounds a bit strange to consider at first, but it’s one of the most important things to look for in a spa or hot tub. Most homes are outfitted with 110-volt outlets, which when used with your hot tub or spa can be more budget friendly at purchase. However, the downside to a 110-volt outlet is that it will take much longer to heat the water and keep it heated.

If you go with a 220-volt outlet you will need to consult an electrician to have that outfitted for your home. Some homeowners find this option more appealing because it takes half the time to heat the water and as well as assisting in the upkeep of the maintenance. If you plan on your hot tub or spa having additional accessories, like a built-in radio, a 220-volt outlet might be the best option.

Cost

Here’s the biggest thing to think about: how much are you able to spend on a hot tub or spa? When you are looking at a hot tub or spa you need to consider how much it will cost you. The price ranges will vary based on the model, accessories, etc. The more expensive models will include the latest technologies, the highest quality materials, and those special features.

The key here is quality. You want to make sure you are staying on your budget while also focusing on the quality of your spa or hot tub. While you may pay more upfront, you will likely save in the maintenance department.

Quality

Like we said, quality is key. But what should you be looking for and asking your local hot tub experts about? The main thing is durability. Ask about how often the hot tub or spa needs to be serviced on average. You’ll also want to ask about which models have the best insulation so that you can enjoy your hot tub or spa to the best of your ability.
